I'll be going to see T4 this weekend. T2 is one of my favorite movies ever and I'm a fan of the franchise overall.

T3 was weak, but that's no reason to judge T4 harshly, I personally enjoyed the Sarah Connor Chronicles, and thought it was balsy of them to circumvent the mediocre T3 like they did. I have learned from experience to believe friends rather than professional reviewers, because frankly a lot of the time they have no idea what they are talking about. So I will give T4 a chance and will see it this weekend. We shall see what we shall see.

Bother, I was hoping this'd be a good return to form for the series - though taking the story out of the present-day and into another post-apocalyptic future was always at risk of robbing the film of its humanity...

And The Sarah Connor Chronicles have been cancelled too? What the hell? Season two hasn't finished airing here yet, so could some kind soul please tell me - without spoilers - whether the story is actually concluded at the end, or if it's just left hanging like any other 'cancelled in mid-step' TV show?

without spoilers, the ending of season two is very open ended...it could lead into another season, or conceivably up to T4

I tend to think that, unless you have some long story arc in mind at the beginning of the series, most films peter out by the third installment. The notable exceptions are things like Star Wars, The Planet of the Apes films, and the Bond series... (But then, Bond isn't really trying to say anything other than "seduce the girl, and shoot the villian")
