Smile Star Trek Catches Up With Wolverine

According to Box Office Mojo, Star Trek and Wolverine are pretty much tied at $152 million domestic, although Wolverine has a much larger foreign take so far.

This is despite the fact that Wolverine opened a week before Trek.

Through Monday, May 18:

Wolverine: $152,418,350
Star Trek: $152,175,578

If the trend holds, Trek might actually be ahead of Wolverine domestically by now. I think it's already ahead of Batman Begins at this point in its run.

Also, Batman Begins gave rise to The Dark Knight, which made -- hold on to yer seats -- more than $500 million gross. So Paramount might be thinking that the sequel to Star Trek could be MONSTER big, which could mean even bigger budgets!

Why isn't Star Trek doing better in the foreign market?

I think it's doing better than it normally does but I'm not sure. It never does great overseas.

Well maybe it will pick up as people see how well it's doing domestically. Maybe they'll say, "Hey, I've gotta watch this to see what the fuss is about!"

*crosses fingers*

Well, some people here think it was just not good enough advertised and mouth to mouth
propaganda will do the trick.
Let us hope for that.
