By this time I'm sure you all have noticed the ninja boots the Romulans are wearing in the film.

I think this is the first time in Star Trek history that a costume piece is cool enough to wear in public. Let alone something i would wear every day. Thanks to Ayya that is exactly what i have been doing ever since i found them online and got myself a pair.

What do you think?

Although the split-toe design gives me hesitation.

Has to do with the way japanese sandals are made:

Uhm, well... no, not all sandals are made like that. And those who are made like that are made like traditional japanese sandals. And because japanese sandals where made this way, therefore the japanese made their traditional socks have this seperated big toe, so one can wear the sandals over the socks.

However, these "Ninja Boots" have made these socks into boots, if that makes sense. Its not as if Ninjas ran around in exactly these boots all day.

You see? Japanese sandals - japanese socks - ninjas from japan - ninja boots. Therefore the big toe.
