there's nothing in it that contradicts anything, so I don't see why it's not canon...

Exactly...however, while the people making it did so with the idea of "completing the 5 year mission" Michael Okuda (all bow!) decided that the 3 years shown in TOS were the last 3 years of the mission and that left no room for the events in The Animated Series, so it's been abandoned...(except, of course, for Yesteryear....Roddenberry himself said that one episode of TAS is canon...picking and choosing....pah!)

Actually there is, in the episode "The Time Trap", when Scotty points out that the U.S.S. something or other was the first Starfleet ship to have warp drive. *At the time (1973), it was canon due to the fact that there was nothing else to contradict it, but I mean now that Enterprise has come out, I'm sure it would lose over which would be more accurate.

Well...that's the fault of those who established canon initially...do we still have to bow when we say their names?
also, the shows seem to have no problems contradicting themselves....heck, Next Gen's movies routinely trashed the "canon" established in the series...yet, for some reason, that's just okay....

Yup, they need to be more clear on saying that whatever on the screen is canon. TAS was on the screen, yet it isn't canon. Makes no sense. They should have said only live-action is canon.

Who are "they"? I want to be bold...I want to say that as much as I respect the work done by the Okudas they are no more valid as fans than we are and if we say the animated series is canon then it's canon.

I think a TAS disscussion group here would be cool!

TAS had the pleasure of having most of TOS cast, Roddenberry's name on it, and great TREK writers like DC Fontana involved.
