This vindicates the belief on the part of diehard Trek fans like me and millions of others that Trek is truly and uniquely amazing. It was left for dead in the 1960's, and came back to life with a vengeance. It was written off a few years ago with the end of ST: Enterprise, and now look!

Trek lives LARGE, baby!

This will get my mom and dad to go - if the NYTimes says something's good, then by God, it's good...

I've heard more positive reviews from the average movie goer than I have from Star Trek fans. Most Trek fans liked the film but are analytical and tend to nitpick, I myself am not the least of these. But non Trek fans who went to the film simply light up and glow when you ask them about it, and some of them have brought the subject up without my ever having had to mention it. "Did you see "Star Trek"? It was really good!", I've heard it a dozen times, if I've heard it once.

I didn't think the movie was all that good. The Romulans didn't look like Romulans but rather face painting skinheads from the 20th century (did they run out of costume money when it came to the Romulan wardrobes?) And whats up with the alien that was tagging around with Scotty? (Star Trek meets Star Wars?) And Spock kissing Uhura....yea right.

My point exactly. You're a fan, you've seen Star Trek before and you're aware of the digressions from Star Trek of the past. But to someone who's never watched it before except a brief glimpse while channel surfing and a quick channel change because "Star Trek really isn't my thing.", this stuff is all new and this timeline is the only one they've ever seen, and they don't know the difference, they just know what they like, and apparrently, they like "Star Trek", a lot.

But if they want to shoot off in another direction then call it something else but not Star Trek. How about calling it "Space Rangers" or something mundane like that?
