Default The box office numbers do not lie...

This movie is a hit, and ST almost held first place again against "D&A" by only 3 million. That demonstrates good word of mouth. I wonder how much of this was due to NEW FANS (which is wonderful!) or Trekkers going to see it again?

the word is spreading. never thought I'd see a good TREK movie again, let alone a successful one.
and it success is based on the quality of the movie.
not controversy or the like.
my sister works at a cinema and says they've never seen such a varied audsience for movie.
and all the talk afterward is positive.

I'd say some of both. Don't forget, there will most certainly be some new fans as a result of now-grown Trekkers who are taking their kids to this movie. Either way, the more, the better.

That's a cool observation from your sister, DJ!

Trekkers alone haven't been able to sustain week 2 numbers like this in a long time. There are people at work that wouldn't have normally gone to see a ST movie but the great reviews and word of mouth have done a good job. My 18 year old daughter asked me to take her to see it, and that NEVER would have happened in the past. Oh and she loved it too!

my niece (14 and new to TREK - TOS only so far) is eager to see it, but I've got some convincing to do with her parents.
