There should be, but all I could see(keeping in mind the pods would be tiny in comparison to the shuttles)were the fleeing shuttles.

Pretty sure that the E has them, but perhaps back in the Kelvins day this was a matter for the shuttles to handle, even though it sounds absurd if you are in the forward part of the saucer section and had to make a break for the bay to survive.

I dunno, has to be a plot hole there somewhere.

Can we simply accept what Pike says as "true" without feeling like we have to count every shuttle we can see on the screen and then extrapilating some kind of number of "survivors"?

There are so many plausible theories that we can postulate that it seems a little silly.

800 survivors... period.
