I haven't read the whole thread (mea culpa). But I will say one thing. There's a seen near the end with Kirk sitting in the captain's chair. He's talking to Spock at the science station, and then swivels the chair to the view screen and grins...that grin was pure Kirk.

I think I stated this in my review, but it was definitely at the end of the film when he had his "Kirk Strut" going on with the "Kirk Smirk" that I was sold.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him grow more into the role.
