I do like Chris Pine as Kirk. I mean he was portrayed as this cocky smart guy. I mean he is young and soon enough he will mature becoming a more responsible Captain. I do like that he was humorous and wasn't too serious. I mean when he entered Starfleet he was young and it was kinda like college. So its not a suprise that he would be sleeping with a woman and being arogent.

In some respects yes.

I see Shatner's Kirk as less arrogant, more quietly smug and self-satisfied. In TOS he rarely was presented with a situation in which he ultimately lost, and so had little to temper his sense of himself as being fallible.
If we had seen him lose 'big' once in a while it would have punctured that air a little bit and humanised him a little more. But we didn't really see that until TWOK and TSFS - maybe that's a part of why I like them so much. We finally see him knocked down to rock bottom, so he has to pick himself up again and get by with wounds weighing him down.

It's not like ShatKirk is a particularly consistent character:
We have the concept of the bookwormish Kirk who has been deeply affected by the executions on Tarsus IV, who seems to have adopted a playfulness on the surface (since he is in space / since he is a captain) to cope with that all. This trait is established in first seasons episodes: Where No Man Has Gone Before, Balance of Terror (Pike-style Hamlet moment!), The Conscience of the King. We also have Shatner's interpretation of the character that dominates in the later part of TOS which is actually more in sync with PineKirk. |

Kirk in The Trouble with Tribbles was similar to Pine Kirk.
