Trilogy? Don't you mean Quadrilogy? There are 4 of 'em.

They are adventure and excitement rolled up with and led by a hero who isn't blessed with silly superpowers but can stumble about a bit, while still kicking the *** of the bad guys (because he's smarter than them, because he reads books) and because they are just awesome!!

Not even as a kid did I get in to the whole adventure thing. The movies just seemed so boring.

The whole 1920 radio drama cult story feel of it makes it fun. Good mix of Humor and Action.
