He could have been the bartender in Iowa, that would have sufficed.

Shatner does do cameos. Many in fact. His latest is in Fanboys.
I wonder if he counted the # of words each had in the script?

Dunno. I thought they moved past that.
It is even conceivable that he was paid to play up the whole thing for driving Shatner fans crazy with the PR.
Not real likely, but not impossible either.

How would that have even worked from an in-universe POV? Spock left to become an ambassador to Romulus before Kirk was "rescued" from the Nexus...

If William Shatner's version of Captain Kirk were to be resurrected, it would most likely be in the Prime Universe and not the Reboot Alternate Universe that Spock Prime is in now. That's why the writers had to place for it in the new movie. The resurrection of his Captain Kirk would be a story onto itself.

See, I was thinking that it would have taken place before Kirk got into the Nexus on the B in Generations...

But that would mean that Spock would have already had to have left for Romulus before that mission.

Kirk disappeared in the Nexus in 2293, after he returned the Enterprise A from the Khitomer conference and retired from Starfleet.

Spock met Romulan Senator Pardek at the Khitomer conference. It's possible he could have gone with him to Romulus that same year for some sort of long peace visit. Maybe that's when they figured Kirk would have sent the message?

Great point to bring up!

That much hubris and awesomeness confined to a single moment in time would generate a V'ger-like entity as they merged. The universe simply could not contain it.

The thing is, now that this timeline is completely seperate to the original one, whose to say Kirk ever died saving the Enterprise-B? So it's completely possible for Shat to make an appearence in one of the next movies
