It worked fine for the purposes of this plot, I felt, without trying to rationalise 'artificial black holes' in terms of currently-existing science. Its physical properties are about as plausible as those of dilithium crystals, warp coils and inertial dampers.

I bet the Kingons would like to get some of that Red Matter to use against its foes. Too bad it is was all used up in the destruction of the Narada. Since there is no more red matter in this timeline, it truly is un-obtainium. Or is it . . . .

Little known fact about red matter... before it's "ignited" it has varied other uses...

It's both a floor wax, AND a desert topping!

It makes your hair shinier, and eliminates that embarassing gray!

It soaks up soda spills like nobody's business!

Dip an heirloom silver teapot in it, and watch years of corrosion disappear!

Slap it on veggies, and dice them up into julliene fries!

and it cuts through crusty, baked on grease like it was never there!

NOW how much would you pay?

I wonder if it had any connections to the mysterious red floating ball seen in the Alias series?
