Not that I care, but just for the record, I'm a 49 year old woman...but, I'll take "dude" as a compliment!

That is alot of ground to cover. I don't mean to rock the boat but I only consider what I have seen on screen to be Cannon.

Eliza that would make sense.

Or Spock is a "guest lecturer" at the Academy (When Kirk is there attending) on let's says science or Human/Vulcan realtions (Hey his dad is an Ambassador...) This happens curently in Naval Academies with officers on extended leaves for refits, ect.

This could be happening during any upgrade/refit of the Enterprise under Pike's command (Heck he did 2-5 years missions we assume.)

I'm of the "on screen" is canon school myself, though I accept that many of the novels are considered canon by some.

Wasn't there a mention of Spock in Journey to Babel being "on the high side of a hundred years old"? I always took it for granted that Spock was MUCH older than Kirk.

No, that was his father, Sarek who was 102 point something. In that episode, we learn that Spock and his father have not spoken "as father and son" for 18 years (that from Amanda), which would correspond to the time Spock has been a Star Fleet Officer.

Eliza-

It's nice to know that with a handle like Eliza that you lack "dude-ish" attributes...lol. I never make assumption about gender on places like this.

Until then you could have been a Chamiloid, or Orion, or ect ect....but I digress...

So we could assume that 4 years (or more) for the Academy. Then 11 years with Pike...that's 14. If memory serves, wasn't "Journey" during season 2?

If that's the case (and taking into account that the first Episode of TOS took place roughly a year inot the mission)...that makes 17 years..was Spock rounding up for his human freinds? Odd since he never did it before...so soemthing is not right here....hmmmm.

Well, TAS was only very recently accepted, and if I'm correct, the 5th film is NOT considered Canon

Zardoz...lol...true, I could have been anything...I guess I should get an avatar, but my normal avatar is so not trekish and I have no thoughts on what would be a good trek avatar (normally Eliza is a pretty princess pug with a tiarra...I guess that would at least scream "female").

Trust me on this, you can't make the math work.

If you haven't read fan fic, you'd be amazed by the extremes they go to in order to have their stories read as "canon based" but still have Spock and Kirk cadets together.

I believe I have canon evidence that is highly suggestive that they were not at the academy together. The banter between Kirk and Gary Mitchell in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" suggests long time friendship...yet, whenever Spock refers to Mitchell it is clear he is speaking of Kirk's friend, not someone he has been close to or friends with...I cannot believe that Spock, as attuned as he always is to how humans can be swayed, would not have referred to Mitchell as "their" associate...the person "they" know. Doing so would have cemented his argument in Kirk's mind...he didn't.

In "Shore Leave" Kirk has a rather athletic encounter with a character from his time at the academy... Spock has several discussions of this but at no point does Kirk say "you remember Finnegan" . Nor does Spock say "Oh, Finnegan!"...

As noted, I hold what is said in the shows/movies to be absolute canon...(I know, there are problems there but there are so many problems...) I believe that it's not possible to conclude from canon that Spock and Kirk were at the academy together.
