Default The dreaded "Star Wars" freudian slip.

Let's hear it, how many people do you know who have said "Star Wars" completely unwittingly when they meant to say Star Trek in a conversation with you.

I've had soooo many friends and other people approach me and ask me about the new Star Trek movie, then afterwards they feel super embarassed about saying "Star Wars" by mistake. And they should be embarassed, and it's kinda nice to be a nerd and have others feel embarassed that they don't know as much as you do. It's kinda empowering to be honest. I hope my ego doesn't inflate too much.

I've had some friends say "Star Wars" by mistake, literally minutes after seeing the movie with me.

Star Wars is so engrained in people's vocabulary.

*sigh*

Here's hoping that one of these days, when a new Star Wars movie is released, it will be "Star Trek" that people are saying by mistake.

To play devils advocate somewhat this Trek did have a more Wars feel..even the warp effect was hyper spacey (grr)

I was hoping this thread wouldn't go that route. I'm just making an observation of the popularity of the two franchises. This observation has nothing to do with the actual content of either franchise's movies.

I agree with RedShirtsRus...it's a slip of the tongue, not a Freudian slip.

I know this because I did it myself!! And I haven't seen a Star Wars movie since I don't know when.

I guess I used the term Freudian slip a little loosely in the title, thanls for the correction spe999.

I do think some people genuinely used the term Star Wars in a Freudian slip though.

A lot of people did it innocently, but some I'm quite certainly meant it deeply from a subconscious perspective.

Woman Who Birth Me does that all the time. has done for years.
but it's not a slip of the tongue. Woman Who Birth Me just doesn't care.
it's all outer space hairy Spocks and Jim Vaders.

Colm Meaney is legend though.

I've been forgiving of that one. I always consider that an issue of accent and not necessarily mispronunciation or outright mistake.
