The Batman franchise didn't start out dominating the box office. Word has to get around, especially with Trek.

TREK's numbers will be tempered just a bit because (unlike the holiday season openings in the past), it will have severe competition for screen space in theaters.

WOLVERINE opened on a ridiculous 8300 screens because theaters were clearing rooms for the summer lineup, and it opened very wide to start -- because Fox new it's screen number would drop drastically starting this weekend.

Now that TREK has muscled into theaters, it will take the lion's share but it is still showing on fewer screens than WOLVIE did last weekend by itself.

But I suspect that TREK will last longer in theaters as well, so if it earns good money longer, that's much more profitable than one hot weekend followed by a sharp drop in attendance and sales.

TREK is going to be plenty big, I have no doubt.

Well let's hope so because this friday Angels and Demons comes out (sequel to Divinci Code) and then the following week T4: ROTM comes out........that alone makes me scared Trek will just fade away into summer dreams.

While ANGELS & DEMONS may do well, I don't think it and TREK are going for quite the same audience, demographically. TREK, in general, will skew younger than A&D, so while there will be some overlap, I don't think A&D will 'take away' as much from TREK as TREK will take away from WOLVERINE, let's say.

Plus, I don't see A&D playing nearly as many screens as TREK is. It will be interesting to watch the market adjustment. TREK should have good 'legs' to last a while this summer.

Let's just put it this way......you are hoping just like the rest of us that that above statement holds true.
