There is no 'logical' reason to explain how both universes co-exist... Nero going back in time wasn't a 50/50 'coin flip' - it was an event- it happened- no one was close to stopping him.
No logical way to explain?

How about the Mirror Universe?

Lazarus's "anti-matter" universe?

The multiple realities we see in TNG's "Parallels"?

The original Trek timeline still exists.

Definitely an alternate timeline that establishes itself in parallel with the other one that we are already familiar with (and which still continues on its own, post-Nemesis). Older Spock still retains all of his memories of the events of TOS as we already know it - which would not happen if this were a truly linear time-travel thing. Watch the original episode "Tomorrow is Yesterday", or the TNG "Yesterday's Enterprise" to see what I mean - the Nimoy Spock would have had a memory wipe, but in the film he doesn't.

Besides, as already mentioned, Orci and Kurtzman have been outspoken about the fact that they explicitly set it up this way.

Yep. That's the ticket!

The Mirror universe is a well established alternate reality...

But like has been brought up many times before there is no reason I can find to say this universe is any different then the Star Trek IV universe when time travel is involved... They went back in time and changed the past...the future is now altered... There will be a paradox of sorts when Romulas is never destroyed in this universe in which case Nero never takes a ship back in time... in a way this unvierse might exist right up until that time and then 'fix' itself once Nero doesn't go back... perhaps some kind of quasi wave-function 'the cat is dead/the cat is not dead' quantum physics voodoo universe that exists parallel to one another from the moment of Nero's existance in the universe to the point where Nero first left the original universe... Something that looks like:
-----====------------------
on the time line - with everything coming before the event, and after the event happening as it otherwise wood. I guess I can believe/understand that.

It doesn't really work for sci fi though...
That concept was designed to describe multiverses connection to each other and where the power to create a universe could come from..

How can time travel cause an entire universe to come into existence...
There's nothing to actually to go back too.

I'd say the most commonly accepted theory of time travel and how it affects people is the one where-in everytime a choice is made, it creates an alternate univerise that runs in parallel with another univerise in which another choice was made. Therefore, there is an infinite number of universes, and the ones in TOS/TNG/DS9 etc is one, whilst the universe in the new movie is an alternate one running parallel with them.

I really would like to know, what "The Guardian of Forever" would say to and about all these speculations and happenings, if it's been asked the proper question.

If I were Prime Spock, I would help the Vulcans, yes, but also see to get a shuttle and quench my thirst of knowledge about these optional possibilities ...
