It's not like we didn't know that this would reset our Star Trek.
I'm not sure if I understand the complaint.

But, technically, it's not resetting our Star Trek. Our Trek still exists. The Abramsverse is a new Trek in a new universe parallel to the old one. Sounds freaky, but it was really the only way to reboot the franchise without saying it was a reboot.

With as many concerns as I had, I thought that the "reboot" worked fairly well--at least in the terms of how it was introduced and explained. All in all, I look forward to the next installment. |

I agree with the alternate timeline. Would you rather have had a battlestar galactica where everything form the original is is completely ignored, as in never happened?

The destruction of Vulcan was very necessary for Nero's revenge on Spock. Because of Spock, Nero watching his home die, now Because of Nero, Spock had to watch his home world die. Eye for an eye.

I was shocked when Vulcan was destroyed, and then I was even more shocked when they kept is destroyed, but I think it was for the better. This is a Dangerous universe, and sorry if it has been brought up, but with a show like LOST where major characters die and stay dead ((with some notable exceptions)) I think this is a welcome and much needed thing to the Trek universe. We had decades, nearly a half a century where a death didn't mean anything. it's the same issue with Comics, specifcally DC, and Marvel. Dead isn't dead and it robs a death of meaning to say 'well in a couple of Issues/Eps. they'll be back, always are."
The only thing that set me off, was "I sure as heck hope the Vulcan colony isn't on Ceti Alpha Five!"

Haha, actually, I can see the first few meetings about this film now... ABRAMS: I wanna blow up a planet. TEAM: Uh... ok... fine. ABRAMS: No! Wait! Now I wanna blow up two planets. TEAM: No. We're drawing the line at one. ABRAMS: What if I created a whole new universe? Could I blow up a planet in each one? TEAM: ... fine. ABRAMS: WOOT |
