Have not seen the movie yet. Seeing it this afternoon. Forget the receiver station bit, you'd still need exact co-ordinates to beam down safely to the planets surface.

God, having a bad day, you'd still have to get back, so you'd need a transporter at the other end unless there is enough power available to lock on and bring you back via the point of origin.

The tribble is on the right side of the screen when Scotty wakes up.

Don't get me wrong it is very good I'm sure you will love it.

With regard to co-ordinates I suppose they could track the Enterprise and locate that way.

By pacing I mean the tempo of events and action on the screen and in the storytelling.

Abrams' style of filmmaking, and perhaps it's due to his television background of cramming stories into 44 minutes of network broadcast, runs at a very quick pace. The comments saying "there was too much to see/absorb in one viewing" results, which isn't necessarily a negative at all. Better that than having the audience ahead of the movie waiting for it to catch up, to be sure.

This pace is more typical of contemporary/younger filmmakers as well. Like it or not, today's generation is faster at absorbing information than I am, especially visual information. On the other hand, I think today's generation is -- GENERALLY SPEAKING -- less literate than my generation. I don't think many in modern, young audiences can stand or enjoy pauses in a story to reflect on things. They're speed readers with often wicked comprehension, but even so I find value in varying the pace a bit and let a dramatically heavy moment linger on screen so it's more effective. I think this might have been done with Nero's backstory -- but Bob and Alex didn't ask me. Though they're welcome to email me to discuss anytime! Doubt they'd ask my advice, but it would be a fun discussion.

My rating hovers around 8.5. I use a five-star rating on my site, so I gave it 4.5... because .25 of a star is just a stupid looking graphic.

I see the film again tonight which may prompt some re-evaluation and added insights. I reserve the right to amend my original review at any time. I'm looking forward to a second look just as a fan instead of reviewing it while watching it, and I expect to see many things I missed last week.

Thanks for your perspective.
I think a B could have been an A- in Nero's case, that's all. I don't think an antagonist's role can be underestimated in effective storytelling, and I'd have liked a little more of what WAS there already. Easy for me to say, of course. But knowing Countdown, all the pieces were there.

We also know at least one scene with Nero was cut from the film (the whole Klingon prison 'escape'), so we don't know what else we missed which was intended to fill out Nero's story more. Edits happen!

Was there really that much to risk in making a 2 part movie? Especially since they had talked with (and signed on) several of the actors for parts 2 and 3 already....I mean, a 2 parter would have given them time to slow the pace down, really delve (sp?) into the backstories of all the crew? The second film could have been a continuation with more of a direction towards the action and so on....I know people have been saying for years that Trek was dying, but if syndication is any indication, I think not....a day does not go by without me seeing one of Trek's incarnations somewhere on the dial...I suppose it was getting a bit tired (no new fans of the franchise) and it was time to "re-boot"....personally, I'm thrilled! I'm going to see it at IMAX this weekend. First time was last nite, digital premier which was excellent...IMAX is gonna be sick!!!!!

THE DVD will tell the truth
I give this film a 10! There was no place in it that had me saying, get on with it! So, in my book, it's a big 10!!!

Default Just seen the Star Trek here are my thoughts, probable SPOILERS

Just got home from seeing it.

Firstly let me say what ever i say about this movie I thought it was awsome, probely the best movie i have ever seen.

I ended up going with my mum in stead of my step daughter. too late for her. I will be taking her though don't worrie.

The trailers are wrong this is my fathers star trek, it is a typical star trek storie. All the elements that make star trek a unique institution are there. The most important part is Gene Roddenbury wanted a good idealistic future for humanity. Or at least that how i understood it, this version of star trek like all the others before is a future i would be proud of!

The cast was perfect esspecily liked 'Bones' and Scotty. Checkoff was a little cheesy though. I feel that the new cast did the original cast proud. Never mind the battles or epic scenes some off the interaction and acting left me astounded. It was also fantastic to see original Spock.

When we saw the view of space dock i must have looked like a fish it was brill. Infact all of the space scenes where just beutiful even though i thought some of the battle sequences where a little over complicated. I can appriciate that in a real battle (if we ever get to real space battles that is) it would be hectic but some times it was hard to get a scence of what was going on with so. Also they changed the photon torpedo sound which wasn't the way i would have gone. I also would have had star fleet phasors as a beam instead of a bolt effect that goes for the had phasors as well. But i am really just nit picking there.

The biggest problem i had i feel was the interiors of the ships. They (to me anyway) didn't fit. The bridge, perfect of both the Enterprise and the Kelvin. As was sickbay and the transporter room. Although i missed the 3 slider control things that seem to be in every transporter room previouly. It was engineering on both ships i had problem with. They both seemed too vast for either ship. It felt like gas power station rather than an engineering section on a starfleet ship. also the shuttle bays seemed to vast as well. i donno it might be just me but i felt lost in both engineering and the shuttle bays.

Like i said at the start regardless of what i have said i loved this movie and if i had the money i would see it enough times my self to enure box office records. As with any film there are things i didn't like. but thats part and parcel of why i'm not a film director and J.J is. lol. this film gets a 10/10 rating from me.

Well done and thank you to everyone involved with the film. You have made instant classic in my opinion!

Oh and a little p.s. my mum spent most of the film confused. why. She dropped her bottle of water right at the point where Nero killed the Kelvin captain. She spent the rest of the film wondering why the Kelvin captain had switched sides and become a romulan.lol.

Please if i have any of the facts wrong because i'm too excited still and i have rememvered wrongly please let me know. And again i am very sorry about the spelling mistakes esspecilly peoples names. no disrespect inteneded to any one.

Thanks
