At that point maybe JJ decided he didn't want people to think the movie was TOO actiony.

We're already getting complaints that the movie is too action oriented enough as it is.

I think maybe it was a wise move to not include the battle in the movie.

I personally would've loved to have seen it, but maybe if it was done it would have overwhelmed the movie.

Kinda like how the Star Wars prequels were just overdone in the action department.

I agree. We see the Enterprise drop out of warp in the trailer as Pike prepares to ready all weapons. In the credits at IMDB.com we see there are no other starfleet captains except the Kelvins captain. This is a good move from Abrams as the audience will see what power the new Enterprise is up against wen she drops out of warp amidst the carnage of death.

One: the Enterprise must have been built long before Kirk rides up to see that ship being built, which we believe is the Enterprise but could be just another ship of the same class. I think the shot with Kirk on the motorcycle had NCC1701 on the sign in front of the construction yard. Maybe not and it was just a generic starfleet type sign.
