Now I'm seeing the promos on TV and they keep saying "forget everything you know", and "This is not your Fathers Star Trek"

Frankly, I like ToS and TNG a lot. The spirit of those series is what is carrying this movie. I'd watch Star Trek with my dad and love it, and they're saying it's nothing like that?

Now,I'm thinking some big wig movie advertisers decided to put those things in, but I hope the spirit of this movie is something a little deeper than just sex violence and action.
If you find some older threads you'll find most of us feel the same way. There are some that are more comfortable with a little sex appeal and more action, others are less comfortable, and then there are even more others that completely hate the idea. This topic has alot of debate just waiting for you to read.

Plus, we all know there was no sex or violence in TOS or later TREK. Abrams invented both strictly for this film, didn't you know?

Yup. That has to be it...Cause Trek in the 60's to 90's had none of that horrid stuff...I mean c'mon Trek was out doing Disney on the holsome family entertainment.

Let's not forget: in the earliest TOS, women crew wore pants.

Gene Roddenberry had them change to short skirts. Why? He liked looking at women's legs.

There's some canon for you!

Adds are insulting to the intelligence.

That's the way it's gonna be from now on.

What concerns me is:

The bridge crew could crash through those big glass panels
when the ship does all that rocking!

Did they solve that in the reboot? Inertial dampeners?

I took a look at the bridge panorama, I don't see any seatbelts.
