I am very eager to see this new Star Trek movie, and although I don't know every detail about it, and haven't been following the Countdown comic (Except for a few spoilers) it looks awesome. Nothing about this movie (not even the new Enterprise) has really worried me.
Now I'm seeing the promos on TV and they keep saying "forget everything you know", and "This is not your Fathers Star Trek" Frankly, I like ToS and TNG a lot. The spirit of those series is what is carrying this movie. I'd watch Star Trek with my dad and love it, and they're saying it's nothing like that? Now,I'm thinking some big wig movie advertisers decided to put those things in, but I hope the spirit of this movie is something a little deeper than just sex violence and action. |

I understand your concern friend. but every review I've read so far is that the movie isn't about sexy-ness or action, but about the characters. Thats what Star Trek has always been about to me. The ships and the canon were never as important as the emotional bonds I made with the characters. And from what I've read, they are still there, perhaps more than ever. Welcome to the forum btw!

They're just using a marketing strategy to appeal to people who already have misconceptions about Trek.
Take comfort in Nimoy being in the movie....he was dragged out of retirement for this movie, and has said that he had no interest in doing this movie...until he saw the script and how it stayed true to Trek.

Yeah, those ads were almost certainly made by pure marketers rather than the creators of the film. In interviews, the central group of people always talk about how they have several people on board (Orci, Lindelof) whose effective job it is to keep the film true to the spirit of Trek. So don't worry about a few TV spots.

It's a marketing strategy tool to bring in new viewers, it's not to be taken literally.

Then it has to be true. You read it on the internet.
