As for how he looks, this was Pegg in early December last and as you can see he's sporting just a little bit of facial hair, which does make him look a little more scotty like, and not too dissimilar from how Doohan looked in the 70s between TOS and TMP

Hmm yeah I suppose he's looking not too bad for the role. He'll need to be clean shaven though lol.

Im glad that others share my "worries" about the choice but like people keeping saying, we shall see how we get on.

And yeh he does seem to keep playing british roles but then again, hes british lol

Paul McGillion would have been better though.

I'm excited about Simon Pegg being Scottie. If nothing, its another actor we can say to our friends "Come see Star Trek, it has that guy from Shaun of the Dead!"

Pegg is pretty much the only one that I still have a question about as well. However, maybe Abrams sees something in him that we have yet to see. Something that screams "Scotty". Hopefully.

I'm still having a hard time seeing it, but I'm going to trust JJ & Co. I mean, they have cast people like Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, Bruce Greenwood, etc---choices I absolutely love.

I'm going to go into it with an open mind because, clearly, JJ Abrams knows something the rest of us don't at this point.

If you've heard him do a scottish accent you would feel better about it.

.
I remember Peggy doing a Scottish accent on Big Train, I think it was...worst accent ever, IMO. Better hope he was doing it bad on purpose...

It wasn't any worse than James Doohan's.

(here's it's here!)

BTW I'm Scottish and I'm more than happy with the casting of Pegg. I think he'll be brilliant.

That bloke from Stargate Atlantis seems nice enough but every time he appeared on screen and spoke I cringed.

My feelings exactly... And it was even more upsetting for me because I was really hoping that Paul McGillion (Stargate Atlantis) would get the part (see attached pic). He looks so much more like James Doohan and he does a mean Scottish accent.

So far, I'm happy with the entire casting except for Pegg. He has obviously never made an impression on me because I don't even remember him from Mission Impossible: III. I just hope that he's going to prove me wrong...

Paul McGillion
