I've read pretty much all his books but he's clearly on crack putting the 'empire' as more advanced then the 'federation' - even TOS era Federation is more advanced then Star Wars tech.

All he's saying is that the Emprie has the resources of an entire Galaxy as oposed to a Cluster of Stars.

Star wars appears to be less advanced, no replicators, no transporters, but they do travel across the entire galaxy in a matter of days. So it seems Star Wars Hyperdrive is more advanced than Trek Warp drive. Everything else and Trek is more advanced.
Oh, one more thing, Star Wars does have that cool planet that is one giant city!

Star Trek has the Dyson Sphere.
There are theories that hyperdrive was developed originaly by aliens that were not native to the Galaxy Far Far Away or GFFA, very very early on in it's development when certain key races were first exploring it. The lack of restraint caused it be widely used an unresearched for a long time. 10,000 years or more infact.

When speaking of Star Trek I think the implication is the UFP. Humans did not build the the Dyson sphere, nor did any of their allies. If you wanted to point out ANY advanced civilization in these fictional universes I would go straight to the top and say "You can't get much more 'advanced' than Q!"
