Default DVD material and extras

As avid fans of DVD or Blue-ray, and given that as many of us are waiting for the retail release as well as the cinema one -

What do you hope for on the DVD itself in terms of material?

Personally I would like, as someone who likes some effort to be put into DVD releases -

at least two commentaries (writer/director & cast).

a thorough making of documentary covering everything from initial deal to make the film through to last day of shooting.

All the trailers and TV spots so far released.

Featurettes on visuals, production design, music, casting, costumes, designing the new Enterprise.

Interviews with the cast (especially Leonard Nimoy, Quinto, Pine etc).

The footage from the 'reveal' at Austin of the real premiere.

An interactive map and journey through the USS Enterprise herself.

A retrospective documentary on Trek itself and the new film's place within that.

Anyone have any other ideas for what they'd like?

It's a multiple choice poll so pick as amny as you feel like and let's see if it gets noticed!!!

Doh!

Nowadays, it's more like how many versions will you like to buy?

If there is a yet-to-be announced director's cut, I am willing to wait for it.

Yes!! I always enjoy extended versions. I think alot of good stuff ends up on the cutting room floor because of issues like total run time or "flow" concerns. Since I would not be bothered by either, after watching the original theatrical release, I would love some extra scenes of Trek!

  1. The "Making of Star Trek" documentary.
  2. All the trailers and TV spots so far released.
  3. Featurettes on visuals, production design, music, casting, costumes, designing the new Enterprise.
  4. Interviews with the cast (especially Leonard Nimoy, Quinto, Pine etc).
  5. An interactive map and journey through the USS Enterprise herself.
  6. A Star Tech primer: Tech 101 for those new to Star Trek, with commentary by today's brightest physicsists and astronomers. Plus a look at the future tech back in the 60's, how it manifested itself today and what tech introduced in this film may be tomorrows science fact.
  7. Deleted scenes & bloopers
You'll notice that #6 is really the only new thing I'd add to your proposed list, since yours basically covered everything I'd like to see as an extra.

All of the above - although I would add that it would be awful nice of Paramount NOT to release two versions of the film (one theatrical and one extended), but to do both options on a single release. I understand that the demands of the marketplace make that unlikely, but a guy can dream, can't he?

That feature has Blu-ray written all over it, since they already offer a fly-around inspection of the E on the TOS:Season 1 BD set.

I voted for all of them. I want a DVD jam packed with extras, I really dig those sort of releases.

It's an excellent suggestion!

Have they? It could be adopted for standard DVD though, couldn't it? Or is that something that Blue-ray does better?

I only ask as I only have standard DVD just now.

More likely a blu-ray feature because of its use of Java and its huge 50gb discs space vs only 9gb on DVDs. (dual layered for both)
