We see them hugging in the trailer suggesting their close, but

I can't see how it would fit with the rest of what we know about the story.

Maybe Kirk is jealous that Uhura can turn to Spock for comfort and Kirk wants to fit that role,

That would make up the love triangle.

Though if I was a betting man I'd say it's between Kirk-Enterprise-Scotty, love at first site.

Look, I wouldn't draw conclusions from the trailers because by now we all know that the trailers are used to pique our interest by making us come to our own conclusions. I don't think that even JJ would imply such a relationship.

I doubt it...if they did decide to do a "relationship" I suspect they'd keep it pretty clean and straightforward given they want the movie to have sequels.

If it got to a TV series, then such antics might be worth exploring.

The reason Uhura hugs Spock in the trailer is

Because his mother, Amanda dies when Vulcan is destroyed. She is comforting him. That's why Spock has the confused look in the trailer when she hugs him.

Although...that one interview with Pine and Quinto that just went up on Trekmovie did say something about a love triangle but it still didn't say much about how involved the relationship between Uhura and Spock actually is. It just makes more sense to me that the relationship would be a bit lopsided with Uhura expressing affection and Spock not really returning it all that well even if he feels the same way. So I seriously doubt they're officially dating or anything as mundane as that. Maybe going out for meals or something or going to, idk, the opera or whatever. More like playdates, I suppose.

I get the feeling that it really won't play that much of a role in the movie at all. Little room for romance when things are blowing up left and right. lol
