If this is true, I guess it would make since.

The 3 month writers strike has caused all kinds of issues.

It just saddens me that instead of 10 months, we now have 15 months to wait, and that much longer to wait for more movie info.

However, at the time of my post, the movie website still says Christmas 2008. So, maybe the producers and director have not agreed to this new date yet.

...or the webmaster just has not updated the site yet.

Studio insiders said "Star Trek" has the potential to gross more in May than in December.
That may be one reason.

Even before the writers strike when months ago XI was slated for a Dec 2008 release I thought: Can they get it all done by then?

Get it done right. We'll wait.

You're right about the more profit in May than December since the writer's strike caused a potential gap in early/mid 2009 for movies being released...now Trek won't have to compete with other big name films (or as many). This sucks that we have to wait so long, but if it is a box office hit, then maybe the writer's strike was a blessing in disguise.

It probably is a better idea, so they can get everything just the way they want it. But I don't want to wait an extra five months!!!
