I appologize to all who like the design. This is just my opinion. But I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. But I have seen tons of pics of it. From Tobias Richter's fantastic CGI renderigns to the models on startrekmovie.com's homepage, to the Playmates toy. And I just can't seem to find a "good" angle. The saucer is too big relative to the secondary hull. The secondary hull is too small. The connecting dorsal is too far back and it's upside down. The nacelle struts are too far back, too vertical, and too curved. And the nacelles are just plain strange looking. They're too big, too close to the back of the saucer, have too much of a taper, and they're waaay too close together. And did I mention that they were frakking huge??? And the bussards are blue. Why? They were never blue before. No Federation starship that I know of has blue bussards.

Anyway, that's my opinion. I don't like it. Carry on.

Phbbtt!
(Just kidding, buddy! I know I got nuthin' but respect for ya, bro!)

I need to see and hear more of it before I can decide more definitely, but I like many aspects of it so far. Different in ways to be sure, but I don't have a problem with that given the story being told.

I like it. Its got influences from both TOS and refit versions with a modern feel. I just don't like the warp pylons.

True. But the ironic thing is that I think the Abramsprise was designed strictly for looks alone. They tried too hard to make it "cool" and "sexy" and, in my opinion, went overboard to the point that it looks like a caracature of the original ship.

Ain't it great being human? Where we apsire for the asthetic (be it visually, verbally, or musically)? I was watching the History Channel last night a program called "Einstein". On the program, all of the modern-day physists spoke almost poetically about Einstein's "Theory of Relativity". Not only did he, with some help, prove that massive objects, like planets and stars, bend and warp space-time, he did so with such a "beautifully simple equation." A simple equation, wrought after years and years of stubborn determination trying to figure it out mathmatically, only to come back to a little physics equation he came up with years earlier...and that "little equation" opened up the world to everything from television, to cell phones, and even this forum we're contributing to.

All from a "beautiful little equation."

I thought the request was that there be no negative comments...but I guess that would make for a boring post, right?

I think it looks 1000 times better than the original....and you can't see the fishing line holding it up, which is a plus!!!!

Its just fluff. The Design of the Abramspise is one reason why I moved Abrams from best Director to the worse director ever.

One of the keystones of Star Trek is the ship. Abrams has ruined that.

I do not hold back in the name of being positive. I tell it like it is.

Thats my opinion.

Worse director ever. Wow, that's harsh.

Personally I think the new ship looks fake. Just like the TOS Enterprise suffered from budget constraints and poor special effects, the JJprise suffers from the notion that the more CGI something has, the cooler it is. The ship just screams to me "this is from 21st century SF movie - look how big our budget is!". The Star Wars prequels had the same problem; the battle of Coruscant looked fake because it was fake. The battle of Endor, on the other hand, looked amazing because they were using real models. The best Enterprise by far (IMHO) has been the Motion Picture refit; 50 years from now that design will still be convincing as a 23rd century starship.
