This will give the Wizard of Oz the fan base it needs to survive in 2009 - without this prequel no one will probably ever make another 'Oz' movie ever again.
Yes, you probably could do all that and still have the same moral at the end. Which matters more than the environment.

The changes in STXI are minimal compared to what you suggest.

Here is a list of different adaptations, who knows maybe your idea would work?

Heh heh heh.

Besides, what if this movie is really, really good? There's no sense stewing for another month over "What might or might no be." Who knows? This Trek movie may be the best ever! Then all our worries will be for naught.

I love your pitch about the new "Oz" film project! Let's get Zooey Dachnel in the lead role as Dorathy and we'll make the tornado more like a Stargate kinda thing... and then...
(telephone rings)
Hello? (murmered speaker gibbers on phone)
What? They already did it? (more phone gibber)
It sucked? Oh, well, okay...
(hangs up)
I guess we'll pass on your idea, Bird.

I did so love Zooey Deschanel in Tin Man. She is a bright eyed hottie.

If the title of this film was only 'Trek' or maybe something like 'Enterprise' (aside from the fact a canon series went that way) it probably wouldn't bother me nearly as much as it does.

It's the new star trek. As i've been saying all along, It would never get as many views if was the TOS version. JJ Abrams and crew would lose their jobs. Sorry you want to hold on to something that is 40 years outdated.
