only in this movie Dorothy is a dude, Todo is a bird, and instead of a tornado in Kansas it's an Earthquake on the moon... also the flying monkeys are robots that can't fly and there's no wizard but there is a tin man- but he dies before the movie is over (aids).

This will give the Wizard of Oz the fan base it needs to survive in 2009 - without this prequel no one will probably ever make another 'Oz' movie ever again.

If you have seen the following movies: "The Net", "Enemy of the State", "Eagle Eye" they are essentially all the same movie, each a with a little twist on plot and action.

But they had the decency to not call themselves remakes of each other. Same with 'Volcano' and 'Dante's Peak' and 'Space Cowboys' and 'Deep Impact'

Hey now! The Wiz is pretty darn awesome. They don't follow the yellow brick road, they ease. And Michael Jackson still looked normal.

Well they did redo Oz a couple of times. As was mentioned there is the Wiz. Then there is the return to oz (anime) Tin Man (sci fi channel mini series) and Wicked (prequel stage play) Of those all of them have a good following and got people interested in the original again or for the first time.

So what was your point again?

Beware: There's plenty of spoilers, but they may help you come to grips with what's happening in this film.

Don't get me wrong. You are perfectly entitled call a spade a spade, but if are concerned for the wrong reasons, then they might help explain a few things.
