Can't say...The photos to the right are actual Playmate toys. When Paramount pictures comes out with props from the actual movie, I can comment.

They have. And they do look more realistic. I would hate to see them use vintage TOS props in this movie...

The phaser and communicator are alright. I still think the old phaser is a bit more futuristic looking than the new one. Communicator is nifty and I would say it looks realistic for 23rd century item. The tricorder is very reminiscent of TNG...

Honestly, the handheld tech isn't all that far off from today, but what can you do? They had to make it somewhat reminiscent of the original series.

No way. The new phaser in the movie will be more futuristic. The TOS phaser looked like the producers went to the local dup and made it with things from there.

All I know is that I love the TOS tricorders. Too outdated for the film, but I still love them.

I'm sure you guys have probably seen these, but here are some fun links:

Well, the new one is really only a slightly updated look anyway. Same basic shape and whatnot. I think they were going for a recognizable look/shape with it and nothing more.

Your comparing the wrong thing, the TOS toys actually look like the show props, from what I've seen so far the new movie the toys do not esp in the finish of the Phaser looks so much better in the movie prop.
