Default The Wrath of Khan to be AFI Nominee

Per Trekmovie.com:

"The American Film Institute has released their nominations for its “10 Top 10,” in which they will honor what they believe to be the ten greatest films of ten different film genres. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was among the fifty science fiction films nominated. The winners will be revealed when AFI’s 10 Top 10 TV special airs on CBS this June."

Does it have a chance?

I love this movie, but there are a lot of good Sci-Fi movies out there.

I am so excited about this news!!!! I have several favorite movies, but even if you asked my wife or kids what is his favorite movie of all, they would chime in "STAR TREK 2 THE WRATH OF KAHN!' I will never forget watching this movie for the first time, I didn't get to go see it in the theater, I don't remember why, but when it came out on video disc, I bought it immeadiatley, we took it out, and watched it, and I watched it again, and again. I think I have seen it over 100 times down through the years. It has had a great impact on my life. I think TWOK has a great chance of winning in its catagorey. It is just great science fiction. It has all the elements, and it did very well at the box office.

WOW!! They actually seperated the Fantasy and Sci-Fi genre. They usually jumble them there types together.

Animation
Fantasy
Romantic Comedies
Sci-Fi
Western
Gangster
Sports
Courtroom Drama
Mystery
Epic

No War genre? Huh? There's Sports, though. So let's see there's Rocky and...ah...ah...ahem...Hoosiers...and...

I don't think it has a chance against 2001 and Co, but it is nice to hear.

Honestly and I love this movie also but I mean with competition like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars( ), Alien, Blade Runner, E.T., Twelve Monkeys, A Clockwork Orange, Back to the Future, The Terminator, Dr. Strangelove or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the Bomb, and The Matrix. I really don't see it making the Top 10, but hopefully it will!

I would go and see Wrath of Kahn every few days with a different friend just so i could lick my finger and gently put it in their ear during the scene where the slug crawls out of Chekhov's ear.
I can still hear those screams.

I'm with Kira on this one.

Loved it, but I don't think it'll win.

There's just too much great competition out there.

Can someone explain to me why the female Lt. Saavik was called MISTER Saavik?

I couldn't find any contemporary basis for it. Maybe someone can provide insight.

I think it's just another carry over from Roddenberry keeping a naval tradition woven through TREK ("Mister Christian" from MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY and all). 'Mister' was used in STII an address to a crew member, and in Saavik's case the point was made not to address her gender but simply consider her one of the bridge crew.
