Since time hasn't changed in a way to make the plausible enough for the 23rd Century, I can see no reason for them to come for earth before Q-Who time in the 24th Century.

Now, a different take on The Doomsday Machine story might work out fantastically.

- Show the colonies in trouble.
- Show the Doomsday Machine eating up the planets.
- The raveged defiant could be great visually.
- Find out more about the Doomsday Machine itself.

Or perhaps, creating something completely new and fresh. How's that for an idea?

Its too easy to resort back to the Borg. They were great in their prime, but sorely overused because of their popularity and rendered impotent. I want to see bold new ideas and directions that don't need to be tethered to something past or recognizable.

This I can buy...but the doomsday machine is not a viable villain on its own. If a said villain were to commandeer the doomsday machine or machines that might be interesting. Some will compare the doomsday machine to the "whale call rock cylinder with the volleyball coming out of it" probe in TVH, but that had an alleged intelligence. The DDM was pure programming with no life.

Just had a thought, and sorry if someone else pipped me to the post, but we have a new Trek universe now that has had (albeit only a comic book reference) some Borg technology thrown into the mix, too early. Could this entise the Borg to visit the Alpha quardrant sooner than it should?

I don't think there will be a new Trek universe. The Borg were discovered when, like someone already said, Q became invoved.

My Mistake, I missed the ST:Enterprise confrontation with the Borg. Blown my theory out the water. I suppose the ACTUAL Borg being on Earth before some modified ship turns up would really upset the timeline lol.
