Remember, this whole Kirk and Spock thing is an invention of the slash writing fandom, and none of it is considered cannon by anyone with any connection to the Trek franchise. None of it. Not one bit. So the slash porn in interesting, BUT it is not to be taken seriously...

In the meantime, on other series, we have Capt. Jack Harkness, Chianna on Farscape, Anara on Firefly, and several of the Cylon models on BSG... All of whom seem to be perfectly accepted, and contributin members of their crews/teams.

You have a point there. I guess I was looking for something more than flirtations when I said that. Of all the people you mention, only Kirk parented a child so he is the only one we know for sure went beyond a coy look. Of course, that was the trend in the 1960's. Even when characters had children (Ben Cartwright, for example) they were widowers or widows.

I wish the movies had gone beyond the tv show in this subject. Gay or not, a reference to some sort of significant relationship beyond their co-workers would have been nice.

I don't read Trek novels or on-line stories. Only watch the tv and movies.

On-screen he was heterosexual, he was never seen to be interested in men and mannerisms have little to do with sexual orientation.
Off-screen, in the realm of speculation, anything is possible.

Perhaps you are right. Perhaps gays are better behaved in the future, than are the straights who hold hands, hug, even kiss on the bridge. Or who are seen putting their boots back on in their quarters after bedding the high speed space babe, or cuddling with an android built in the shape of the opposite sex, or ...

Or maybe the GLBT folk have just been pushed deep underground by some nasty laws and UFP regulations in the future... you know, like they'll be given the airlock, or keelhauled along the engineering hull if they are found out. It's as likely an explaination as any why gays don't seem to exist in Trek...

Or maybe they just put gays, on detection, into one of those whirly light chairs from the "Whom Gods Destroy" episode, and tell them... "You are straight... you are straight... forget who you actually are, and whom you honestly love... you are straight...." Yeah. Brainwashing! That's it. That's the positive future that Roddenberry was creating!

Stalking? That was an unusual friendship, there never was anything sexual about it.

Again, pure speculation. Not that I mind or care whether he is bisexual or not, I just fail to see why one has to deny his heterosexual side which was clearly established on-screen.
