Looks like the next state to "grow the heck up" and strike a blow for equality is Maine... almost a full 1/10 of the country now...

Yup. Maine passes. No anti-gay marriage laws there!

Let's hope it stays like this. Federal law would really make everything easier. For example, what happens if you marry in one state and then move in another one where homosexual marriage is not allowed? Or what happens if you partner has an accident in such a state and the folks in the hospital don't accept you as his spouse?
Same problem in Europe, although in Germany homosexual marriage exists for about a decade now, I don't know how matters are handled in other EU countries. But either special interest or local patrotism always stand in the interest of bigger adminstration units. As if our biggest problems like financial disorder, climate change and an increasing world population could be solved on the state or even the national level. |

Great news!! It's only a matter of time before there are more states that have equal marriage rights than those that are stuck in the past. I only wish I could rush it along!! Look for New Mexico to be next in the near future.

Assuming Obama has a second term (which I think he WILL), then I see the country being more ready to make the change on a national level near his 8th year in office. I think by then the Federal government will at least recognize same sex marriages from states where it is legal.

New Hampshire already passed a bill doing the same!! Unfortunately it is NOT clear whether or not the Governor will sign it.
