Agreed, all Bana meant was he's filming all his scenes at the end of the film's production schedule. It's entirely common for actors not on-call for the entire schedule to come in at some point and film all their scenes at once -- this frees up their own schedule to do other projects (as Bana is hopping around promoting his other film currently). The scenes he shoots in that time can appear anywhere in the film. My guess is at least one of them will likely be very early in the story, given rumors about the plot.

I don't know if an exact wrap date has been announced, probably not. And IF there were any small rewrites to be done once the strike ends, that may extend production a little bit longer than currently scheduled.

In any case, I think you're very close, Sir Num, given that Giacchino says he's scheduled to work on the score in April once he's done with SPEED RACER. Usually the score composer will work on the film after it's wrapped, or at least the majority of production is complete so he has footage/scenes to work with. Though there will be a lot of placeholder clips since post-production will only have just started by then!

EXACTLY. In fact if anyone remembers from the TrekMovie Q&A with JJ and all of them, Quinto mentioned they were filming the last scenes of the movie already.. quote being:

so exciting. really. especially tonight. literally shooting the final scene of the movie as i type (of course we shoot out of order - there are more than two months of shooting still to go)

It would explain the budget, but ultimately save on salaries, and actor availability for the second movie...

It's a smart buisness move...if the movie is a huge success...if not...the second film will just be "bonus features" on the DVD of Trek XI.
