I thought Trek could use a combination of alternative and orchestral music to give it a modern feel. Music that gives us some clue that the future hasn't abandoned good band music.
Let the ballads go though.

There's no need to parody real people's opinions Saquist. Cool and stupid aren't always the same thing. But sometimes they are. Enterprise theme song sucked. I preferred the Mirror Universe theme in "In A Mirror, Darkly" also.
Needless to say, if I hear any lyrics in any of the music for the new Star Trek movie, I'm going to cringe. Unless of it is a Klingon war song of course. I really dig those.
