may I rant a moment.
I reached my limit and need to get it off my chest.
why is there so much negativity in this [and many other] fan forums in relation to these type of franchises and movies in general from the fans?

I've joined several Trek, Star Wars, X-Files, etc.and the negativity is a common factor in them all. Threads dedicated to 'the worst episodes', 'worst dialogue', 'I hate this actor or that', 'Kirk haters', 'George Lucas doesn't understand Star Wars' 'ST and SW canon'.

I stay away from threads like that, but more and more the hate invades the one's that interest me.
just a few minutes ago I was reading a thread about Chris Pine getting voted
the 'star of tomorrow', that for no reason someone mentioned the year old Christan Bale incident off the Terminator set and the London hotel. and that was it, I needed to speak out.
so what? we should not even give the time of day to the private lives of people we don't know. who here hasn't been angry at a co-worker [especially one kept messing up] or shoved their sister out of the way?
we shouldn't care that Abbott and Costello despised each other! or thay Laurel and Hardy were truely the best of friends! or that the 'crew' in Trek were jealous of Shatner!
we should only care that this people entertain us for a short time and the film crews make it look nice.

Now, these boards exsists for people to voice their [like I am now], and that is great. However, there is an awful lot of begrudery and nit-picking about.
can't we be more happy and positive.

Interestingly enough, this is one of the more tolerant Star Trek-related forums, believe it or not. There are the ''usual suspects'' here who fall into that category you described and most know who they are and avoid the bait.

You want some real ''entertainment'' I suggest perusing the Star Trek Phase II forums...just don't drink the Kool-Aid. Don't get me wrong. They're some really good people over there--just very strong delusions of grandeur at moments.

I under why some people might be negative about this movie because its a big change from the orginal. The people that say Lucas doesn't know Star Wars is really dumb to me.

I have even dared to wonder why the moderators on this forum have allowed so much negativity about the new Star Trek film on this forum. Free speech fair enough on some fan run Trek forum, but this forum is part of the official web site which is designed to promote the success of this film, and as such is a completely unsuitable medium for canonites to be damning this film.

Mind you just about a month a go I voiced this point and got banned with out warning and with out the chance to defend myself. Shameful!

Yes I did. I could not even read the forum for a week, and then for a further 3 weeks could read but not post (or open picture attachments). As you may gather I am very bitter about that. Especially as the 'imagined' infraction was described as attacking or harassing another member. I at no point even mentioned any other member by name etc. Also was very unhappy that the Moderator would not respond to PMs. No doubt I will get banned again for making this post.
