I disagree. The silhouette of the ship and the title pretty much says it all. I don't see movie posters out much. It'll be good as a full-page in magazines and on theater lobby walls, where most posters go anyway.
Besides, moviegoers in this country are also pretty much TV watchers too. The commercials we've seen and those yet to air will take up any slack.

It gives you as much information as the 'logo only' teaser posters.
'Okay, this movie is about something flying at high speed.'

For me a movie poster does not have to sum up a plot or give specifics about the story to be appealing or intriguing. Some of my favorites are Close Encounters Of the Third Kind and Alien. Both of posters were just symbolic images, not impressionistic as the Trek poster but not character/story image type posters that didn't hurt the box office for those films at all. We fans are going to go to this movie but for nonfans this poster poster is going to catch many an eye and intrigue quite a few folks I believe.

I think all the posters are crap. I noticed how easy it was to miss the Star Trek promo posters in my local cinema (UK) compared with those for other films! Not bright enough, and Star Trek is not prominent enough on them.

I like the US poster -- it's very unique and really stands out from the big-floating-heads-over-action-scene type posters that's been the bog-standard sci-fi/action layout in recent years.
