But after Enterprise was cancelled, the ST:TB project died soon after.

Interesting to note, if you're familiar with the proposed Star Trek Animated series that's been on hold for well over a year now?

As you mentioned, the Captain in ST:TB was to be Tiberius Chase...

In the animated series, the Captain of the 25th Century USS Enterprise was to be Alexander Chase...

I wonder if there was supposed to be some connection between the two.

A lot of that had to do with the regime change at Paramount in 2006. Berman was considered part of the "old regime" and the new guys in charge really wanted someone new for the next Trek film.

Probably, since the Tiberius Chase character came first, but the 25th-Century animated series was just a concept proposal by a couple of guys who had worked under Berman before. CBS never really had any plans to actually do an animated series--hence why there's been no news about it in over three years--but CBS wanted to see what these guys could come up with if they went that route...
