If so, what direction would you prefer JJ & Co. take? If not, why?

No. No more Godzilla remakes, please.

Wasn't that bad as long as you don't sit still while watching it.

Ok, I'm going to break trend and say yes, I want a sequel. I personally loved Cloverfield, it was much better than any Godzilla movie. I think there's a lot of story there and a sequel would be cool if it were done right.

I thought Cloverfield was great but to make sequel to it would defeat the whole purpose in my view. There's a tape out there that documents the destruction of NYC by a monster and we already saw it. All a sequel could do is expand on what we're seeing and 'explain' it more so, which I think completely screws over the original.
But I don't know, maybe there was a side B to that tape and Abrams'll bring it to us. Actually remember reading somewhere that Abrams said he had no interest in a sequel to Clover, so if there is one, it'll be new people, people who probably explain everything about the creature we saw in the original down to its blood type. Sorry to be a drag. I'm quite pessimistic about sequels.

I'm fine with a sequel as long as they drop the camera style, or at least tone it down. The rumours were true - it did cause headaches and feeling generally unwell as I had to leave the cinema because of it and wait for the DVD.
One rumour wasa conventionally shot film from the military side, another rumour was that as we see everal other people with video cameras, we could see the same night from another group's perspective and piece together more about what the monster was and where it came from. I think Abrams had said he was only interested if it was a good idea. But I don't think it's being looked at in detail yet.

Cloverfield was OK, the main weak point were the characters IMO. The monster was interesting, it had kind of a 'poor baby-monster lost in NY quality', so I'd say that there is room for a sequel.
