WTH? Engineering? Pics from new trailer
  Come on JJ??? WTH are you thinking here? Are you frakin kidding me? No way the engineering looks like that on the E!!!

Says so on Trek movie, and i kinda believe them. Nothing else makes sense with Scotty swimming in the pipes

Lower decks. This is when Kirk and Scotty do a "transwarp beam in" from Delta Vega. Scotty materializes in the water pipe.

Because it looks like a boiler room rather than a engine room. Water pipes so big? Why? There is no logical reason!

It could be extreme lower decks in the secondary hull.
To be honest, I always kind of wondered why everything in engineering was tucked away behind panels you had to move about to get access to. It made everything look clean, but that was about it.
