Default Just wondering....

Why is it that Voyager is sometimes reffered to as "USS Voyager" and other times as "Federation Starship Voyager". Which is the correct one?

I'm recently new to the star trek world so bear with me...

It's Both...

U.S.S. Voyager is the name of the ship, and it is also a Federation Starship, so therefore it was referenced as the Federation Starship Voyager to some Aliens.

Think of it in terms of nations...

Russians would refer to the "CVN Enterprise" aircraft carrier as the "American Aircraft Carrier Enterprise."

It's worth noting that Starfleet and the Federation itself are actually two different things. Starfleet is the fleet of the Federation, the Federation is an alliance of sorts, starfleet is its navy.

But yes, as everyone said, Voyager is both. Memory Alpha has an interesting page about registries and that sort of thing.
