Here is my take on things

SHOW

Okay Nero ship arrives in the past. The first ship on the scene is the Kelvin. The captain announces that he is Captain Kirk (Kirk's father). Nero remembers the name and tries to take kirk out thinking he is killing the hero Kirk. Just as he is about to crush the Kelvin Spock arrives and sets his ship on a collision course with the Narada. Then beams over to the Kelvin to find Kirks father dead. The Narada is damaged heavily. It retreats to Klingon space to make repairs. The problems from the impact of Spocks ship grow more surviver. The Narada is destroyed. Nero escapes in an escape pod, later is found by the Klingons. And is put in prison just because he is romulan.

There might be one hitch in your theory, Datalore:

George Kirk is not the captain of the Kelvin, Robau is -- at least for a while. Pike says in the trailer that George Kirk commands the Kelvin for only 12 minutes, presumably after Robau is killed or incapacitated, but his command doesn't last long and he's killed. Even the new official site dossier lists George Kirk as First Officer.

But you raise another interesting sidebar: what if George Kirk "saves" Jim Kirk by somehow damaging the Narada in the battle, incapacitating it at least temporarily? The Klingons could possible overtake the Narada and capture Nero to imprison him -- again, I think he tangles with the Klingons too at this point.

But if they capture the Narada, I would seem quite logical that the Klingons would attempt to learn from or reverse-engineer Borg-modified technology from the Narada -- hey, the Klingons have to catch to Starfleet too once Nero drops into the 23rd!

Thus his ship is hidden in 'drydock' somewhere being studied instead of being destroyed, and so could be available to him when he escapes prison -- perhaps commandeered by his own crew once again?
