ive got a theory:

I think the narada arrives through the rift, the kelvin happens to be there when it arrives, then Nero gets captured, and 18ish years later he escapes and goes after Vulcan and earth, Kirk just happens to be around at the time, and Nero remembers who he is, the set up in the comic is so that we know that Nero has rummaged through history. Meanwhile, OldSpock has been hiding, and possibly feeding info to starfleet clandestinely to help prepare them for the Narada, as he is sure nero will get out and have another go...or something

But where would the Narada be all the time Nero's in prison? Doesn't make sense.

If the Narada can destroy 40 24th century Birds of Prey, I don't see how the Kelvin can even make a dent.

One could also say that his manipulations could just as easily adversely affect his future by setting up a chain of events to make the Klingons the dominant power.

Absolutely, but isn't the fact that our choices could have adverse effects on the future a reality for everyone? I mean, that's true in everyday life. Doesn't stop people from trying to advance their agendas.

but how many crew was left at the end of the comic, the klingons must have got most of them, maybe even a few clingons left on the ship?

If Nero doesnt get caught, what does he do for 18 years?

I think the movie will shed a lot of light into the end of the countdown comics. After all, the film needs to be a self contained story, so some of what happens in the countdown comics will be revisited in the film. Actually, the film was written first I believe.

How does Nero manage to fail to eradicate the Kirks, assuming baby Kirk is aboard and escapes?
