These new actors have stumbled into probably the biggest entertainment fan circle ever. They are now the crew of Star Trek, and we fans are quite avid... almost maniacal in some cases (namely mine
).They are now going to be asked to do conventions ALOT... and if previous series are any indicator, and if this movie is successful... which it is likely to be... they will forever be branded as the crew of the USS Enterprise. Aside from Zachary, and I even think he gets quite the scope of it, I dont think any of these people have been at something like at Trek convention... I hope theyre ready! Comments? ![]() |

Im sure this was all laid out to them in advance. Its all part of it and signing on to playing the roles is just a small part of it. They are starting by having to go to each and every premier and watch the movie over and over. I hope they are as exited for their new lives as we are about the new old crew. Or as exited as most of us are I should say.

I don't think you will see these actors fall into the trap of becoming permanently associated with Trek at all, they will maintain a respectful distance for the sake of their careers.

Its all determinate upon the success of the movie, but make no mistakes that convention attendance is probably a contractual obligation. They cant afford the cast being perceived as snubbing the fan base. Of course they get paid to attend them...

Please allow me to correct you on something: Karl Urban was part of something as big as Star Trek before - if not bigger - namely a little trilogy called "Lord of the Rings". He's actually a veteran of the convention circuit and he's been doing it for way longer than any of those youngsters, going back as far as his days on Xena in the mid-90s. Of course the Star Trek fandom is particular and Karl hasn't been to that big a convention in quite some time but I don't think he's going to be as overwhelmed as the puppies might be.
![]() I don't think that Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban will be typecast as members of the Enterprise crew simply because they've been part of something big before. Zachary is already fairly well known for his role in Heroes and Karl is always identified as Eomer in LOTR. As for the others, that's another story... I'm not sure about Simon Pegg but I think Cho, Saldana and Yelchin may indeed suffer from that .

It's that 'opportunity of a lifetime' vs 'typecasting' risk. I'm sure they all weighed up the pros and cons that might happen.

Don't forget Simon Pegg! He's been in many other movies, like "Shaun of the Dead" and the other one, can't remember the title, has the word "fuzz" in it...and I think he was also in one of the "Mission: Impossible" movies.
Though that by no means prepares him for Star Trek conventions (which I daresay he'll enjoy those anyway, being a big fan himself), I would say that makes him pretty well known. At least as much as Urban and Quinto.

Even the people that have never watched an entire episode or movie of Trek know what it is and what comes along with it. This new crew of actors must of been living in a cave their entire life for them to NOT know!!

Typecasting is not so much an issue as in years past. Good actors find opportunities.
The new cast is ready. Question is; are we ready? Don't expect of slew of sequels. Maybe one or two and probably some cast members will leave to be replaced by others.
