I would say you're being a little harsh - I like a movie that makes me think. If it's all just explosions and boobs and fighting, well, that wears pretty thin for me after a few minutes.

sorry i didnt mean entirely that , i think the question is: does this pseudo-high society of people who watch slow study movies like the ones of theodor aggelopoulos , or bergman think themselves better than us?

Action and supense or lack thereof does not make a movie interesting per se. I have seen bad blockbusters and bad indie movies.

Last indie movie I saw was "Wendy and Lucy", a story about a young woman who is traveling to Alaska with her dog in order to find work and she becomes basically homeless after he car breaks down. No action, no suspense, not much dialogue either, nothing "brainy", simply a very sad movie that makes you think. I'd prefer this anyday over dumb action.

Nothing against "cultural movies", as long as they are made well.
And I also don't have anything against dump action-movies, as long as they are made well.
And as long as I don't have to watch them all the time.

I also don't think an "intellectual" movie automatically has to lack in dialogues. It's all a question of whether the movie is based on realism or other intentions/genres.

I don't mind lack of dialogue if the cinematics are gorgeous... and or poetic.

That's why I love movies like Total Recall - it's smartly written AND things blow up.

Hey you! I'm doing good... real tired though. We were filming until 10pm last night... didn't get home until 11pm. Hopefully they don't need me to supervise any VFX needed shots today. Tomorrow will be likely....

Anyways... I am part of a very very modest team for a very low budget film. It is science fiction in the sense that it does take place sometime in the not so far future. No space battles and space craft. My job is just to create the visual cues to let audience know where and when things are taking place. Nothing spectacular. VFX is only like 5% of the entire film but lining up to be heavy work for me that will last a month or more. This is the biggest film project I've gotten to work on... I'm tired but thrilled.

Even though the cast and crew size is modest the cinematography is very very beautiful because everybody is at the top of their game and giving everything they've got. All of the actors are very very good and you may recognize some of them if you saw them. One of them did several Star Trek episodes.... remember Richard Riehle? He plays a side character. I got to chat with him and got a picture taken with him. (Someone else took the photo so it'll be a while before I have it on hand) I'm more excited about this film and galvanized to give this project everything I have to match everybody else's level of professionalism. My eyes are wider open to the cinematics and motions and expressions to convey parts of the story. Also having a background and interest in traditional animated movies... I've always been a fan of cinematics, but even more now.

Personally.. I really love the openning scene to the movie Contact... where they pull away from earth and it keeps going and going... pulling out to the univerese's edge and then to Ellie's eyes. That is just beautiful but no real dialogue or sound for a good 5-8 minutes I think... I'm sure it drove some people nuts but I really love it.
