Well, according to Ron Moore, he's finished writing a prequel/sequel to John Carpenter's The Thing. It takes place from the Norwegian camp's point of view. I really like the first one and I'm glad he's not rebooting the whole thing

If it's a prequel, we already know what happened to the dog. The End.

Indeed, but it's Ron Moore. He's probably got something crazy up his sleeve. Maybe it would explain where "The Thing" came from and such. There's plenty of possibilities. I hope it's not merely the same thing that happened to the Americans happens to the Norwegians and that's all the movie is. It's gotta be bigger.

I must admit I really did not like Carpenter's version of the Thing. I though it was too grotesque. The original Thing was really more dramatic, with the creature bursting into and out of rooms or just standing there when a door was opened. Scary stuff when you're young. I'd like to see more of the saucer and a return to the original creature.

It was quite grotesque and certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but I liked how Carpenter threw little nods out to the original and kept the original opening title.

I read about this a couple weeks ago. He had mentioned it took place in proximity of timeline to the Carpenter film so I wondered if that would mean the other camp's story. Sounds interesting.

I read on SciFi Wire the other day that someone's been hired to rewrite Moore's script. I really hope that it isn't just a carbon copy of the first one or even the original from 50s. Surely, there's a way to connect the films and make it a little different.

I think it's a long way off being made at the moment. But as Moore's plan is to tie his and Carpenters together, I would think that nods to the 1950s might be less likely.
