According to some info on wiki etc production is slated to start in July 2009 before the air date. At the moment 18 episodes have been requested, in addition to the pilot which will be split into 2 to create a 20 episode first season.

While it's unusual to release the pilot on DVD in that manner, it has apparently had some good early reviews. I wonder if a poor reception and poor sales (should that happen) would be enough to kill the project?

It'll be interesting to see what happens when it does come out.

Dynasty meets Blade Runner!

Now, that show I really want to take a look at!

SCI-FI (or SyFy) may wait to see how well the pilot does in DVD sales before greenlighting it as an ongoing.
Indeed. But, they're gonna need to promote the pogees out of it (old BSG term) if they want to generate sales.

I'm looking forward to Caprica and also The Plan. I think both stories have merit to be told and don't just seem to be ways of milking more money out of this franchise. I'm still skeptical about Stargate Universe though, however the sneak peak during the BSG finale was interesting. It seemed much darker than what I've read.

As for the Larson BSG, I can't wait. It was his baby to begin with and I'm glad it has no connection to Moore's BSG, though I love it. It's a different animal, they should be separate. It'll be interesting to see how Galactica made with today's techniques would be and the new BSG is just that, 'new', it's not the old Galactica, so I say bring the old back! I'm ready to watch!

According to the latest - which is from wiki

The series will focus on two families - the Adamas and the Graystones - whose lives are brought together by an act of religious extremism on Caprica, leaving each without a daughter.

Joe Adama is a lawyer and Daniel Graystone is a wealthy industrialist who begins to use his vast fortune and industry to utilise recent breakthroughs in A.I to try and bring the girls back to life. His course of action sets the two families against each other - along with supposedly many, many other storylines that will no doubt feed into the show's development.

If this series compares to BSG quality-wise it'll be well worth my time.

AICN has a post containing 7 clips from Caprica. Watch at your own risk though...it's seemed too spoilery to me.

Nice clips - they seem to support the story outline I found from before. Is it just me or does Polly Walker (from the last clip) always play folks that you seem to instinctively not trust!
