The new one is a different experience, but a very worthwhile one!

I've heard of the new Larson film - fortunately it will be disconnected from the new series, and I think that's wise. But I remember the 1978 movie fondly, and if they go along those lines with modern effects then a new movie could be a great flick.

I'm thinking about buying the original Galactica on DVD. I've only seen a handful of episodes.

They did - and trust me, it works perfectly!

She is a far better character than the original in my opinion. All the characters are deeper and richer.

Agreed, I think the character work in BSG is exceptionally good for any series. The work they put into building all the characters really carefully. I hope the same effort goes into Caprica's characters.

It's an interesting marketing tactic Universal is using, putting the pilot of Caprica out on DVD first before airing it.

On the one hand, it could pique interest of fans and non-fans of Galactica.

OTOH, once the DVD has been released, how is it going to help ratings for the pilot episode? I mean, if you've already got it, what's the point of watching it on TV?

I am interested in the fusion of drama and sci fi (they said this is largely to be a drama) that this show will be, and they have a good lineup of actors.

I loved both the original series and the new show. I have to play catchup on Hulu.com to stay current on new BSG. I hope the finale is a good one.

IMO, it's a sign that SCI-FI is kind of iffy whether or not they want to proceed forward with Caprica as a series.

SCI-FI (or SyFy) may wait to see how well the pilot does in DVD sales before greenlighting it as an ongoing.

There's been rumors that we'll see the origins of the Cylons and the Adama family, but that the series will really steer clear of battlestars, vipers, and space travel in general and just focus on everyday life on Caprica. I remember someone once describing it as "Dynasty meets Blade Runner"...
