The only thing that bugged me about that shot and its stupid, but the whole area only appears to be protected by a chicken wire fence? And nothing anywhere near the ship to keep people out! You would think they'd have at least a big *** physical wall around it. Im not discounting that there could be some kind of invisible force field around it too but still seemed a bit off.

Kirk's face looks a bit scrapped up in this scene which makes me think it is right after the bar fight. Pike's little speech could have gotten to him and he is contemplating his future, and doing a little daydreaming.

Also are we to assume that all of the graduating Starfleet Academy personnel are being sent the Enterprise only? There has to be more ships either like the Enterprise or other designs in orbit.

Or (and I hope not) are we back to TMP syndrome, one ship, an untrained crew, threat to the planet etc.

I'm with Occam's Razor on this one.

It is the Enterprise.

As I stated on another thread, I believe the idea is the Enteprise is Kirk and Kirk is the Enterprise...they are both being "built" at the same time.

Consider them twins...

That's cause they're in the future, a future where young humans aren't petty, pathetic vandals who roam the streets looking for public property to urinate on whenever they're drunk.

There're rudimentary measures to keep people out of that ship's construction site - enough to stop someone simply wandering in. A co-ordinated attack by a military or terrorist group, however, would be a big problem no matter how tight the security or how high the wall.

The fence just marks a perimeter, we have no idea what kind of security is beyond that. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there.
